Canada Provides Updates on Exemptions to Travel Restrictions and Visa Dynamics
time:2020-04-17 16:25:05 from: click:255

Due to the Confirmed cases in Canada are mainly imported one, Canada announced travel restrictions in the middle and late March to protect Canadians from the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak,,which to some degree is beneficial to Canadians and international students. Until now, most people cannot travel to Canada even if they have a valid tourist visa or ETA before further official notice. Within China, except for Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Recently, The Government of Canada is providing an update on exemptions to travel restrictions. Exemptions to the air travel restrictions will apply to foreign nationals who have already committed to working, studying or making Canada their home, and travel by these individuals will be considered essential travel for land border restrictions.

The exemptions include:

l seasonal agricultural workers, fish/seafood workers, caregivers and all other temporary foreign workers.

l international students who held a valid study permit, or had been approved for a study permit, when the travel restrictions took effect on March 18, 2020.

l permanent resident applicants who had been approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced on March 18, 2020, but who had not yet travelled to Canada.

Here we see that this exemption is still more humane, and it will not affect study plans of students who students who were signed up before March. Also even some people are exempted from immigration to Canada, they must accept a basic check-up and won’t be allowed to take the air if they have some symptoms.

After landing in Canada, a check is also required before leaving the airport. Even if passengers are asymptomatic, all inbound passengers must undergo a 14-days self-isolation. At present, people who need to enter the Canada should cooperate actively.

At present, although Canada continues to accept a series of visa applications, all of them have been turned to IRCC online, and visa centre in China are only open to applicants who have made an appointment and need to submit biometric data collection. Moreover, the visa processing cycle has become longer and changes almost every week. Detailed speaking, the processing period of study permit is around 9 weeks, and visit visa has been extended to 61 days. Furthermore, the IRCC advised applicants not to apply for a tourist visa between 9 April and 29 April, as the applicant could not enter Canada during this period so that materials are not available to be processed.

The visa policy changes at any time due to uncertainties. So we need to pay more attention to visa dynamics published by Canadian Immigration Service, master the latest policy in time, and prepare early for the follow-up visa application. To Sum up, we are looking forward to an early end to the global epidemic and obtain an free breathing and space again.
